It’s quick and easy! Can’t wait to read what you post!

Fresh and Friendly Faces Return to the Playhouse for a Fun-Filled Summer!

Who doesn’t like it when a familiar friend comes to town? No one! That is certainly the case at the Ivoryton Playhouse this summer. We have several great people returning to spend some time with us, as well as some newcomers. First off, we have the lovely Joan Shepard coming to town for ONE NIGHT ONLY to perform her one-woman show “Confessions of Old Lady #2” on Monday, June 21st. We are so excited to have her back on the Playhouse stage and know that you are as well!

Secondly, we have our interns back for the summer, already working away! This summer you will see a familiar face as well as two new interns that are going to be an amazing asset to our productions. We are thrilled to have them on board!

Lastly, we have our children’s productions beginning soon. Included in this line-up are such favorites as “Goowins Balloowins” and “Bubblemania”.

All of the shows this summer are guaranteed to be a great time so make sure to come and see some old and new faces. Bring your friends! Make new ones! Become a friend or fan of the Playhouse on Facebook! Any way that you look at it, it is time to begin your summer and time to start having fun at the Ivoryton Playhouse!

What an ODD COUPLE!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is here! The final show of the summer.  Don’t miss this hilarious comedy by Neil Simon featuring Ivoryton’s favorite funny man Bruce Connelly (A Funny Thing…, Cabaret, Same Time Next Year,…).  We are already in our second week of this four week run and the houses are filling up quickly.  Once this show closes and the summer comes to an end, you will still have three more chances to see great live theatre at the Playhouse in 2009.  In the fall, there is “The Miracle Worker” and “Jerry’s Girls”.  Then, there is the much anticipated community show in December.  Not to mention the two remaining children’s shows! There are so many options for affordable entertainment right in your neighborhood.  Don’t let these opportunities pass you by!

Also, we would like to extend our deepest thanks to those that contributed goods to our raffle or purchased tickets.  We raised over $9000 for the Playhouse and could not have done it without all of your help!  Thank you again!

Will they or Won’t They…win the GRAND PRIZE?!?!?

Please forgive the delay in posting this new blog but so much has been going on at the Playhouse these past few weeks! Shortly after closing “Marilyn: Forever Blonde” to great reviews, we opened “The Full Monty”. This production runs until July 26th and is selling really well! Make sure to get your tickets soon! This comical, exciting and high-energy musical has already gotten amazing reviews. This is a show not to be missed!

In addition to this fantastic show, we have a wonderful fund raiser going on. Instead of asking you to spend $50 on a ticket to attend a boring night of cheese and crackers, we are holding a raffle! Tickets are only $5 a piece and there are numerous prizes including a weekend escape in Essex (including such things as a couple’s massage, dinner and gift certificates for local shops), a set of 4 tickets to a Yankee game (including parking and passes to the Mohegan Sun lounge) and a beautiful bird house. Please help us to achieve our goal of selling 4,000 tickets and raising $20,000 to benefit the Playhouse (and to help keep the cost of future tickets as low as possible). Remember what they say: “You can’t win if you don’t play!”

Who Watched the Tony Awards?!?!?

I am sure that many of our audience members tuned in to the Tony Awards this past weekend. If you did, then I am sure that you tried to stay awake until the end of the show and the performance for “Hair”. If so, then you saw Ivoryton’s own Jackie Burns (seen in “A Grand Night for Singing” and “Cabaret”)! She is just one of many performers who has taken their talents from our stage to the Great White Way! With all the talent on our stage this season, it is hard to predict who will be the next one to take that leap! Make sure to join us for the remaining shows of 2009 so that during the 2009 Tony Awards you can say “I saw that actor in Ivoryton!!!”

Also, make sure to check out “Jerry’s Girls” in November! It features songs from the great Jerry Herman who was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award!

DIAMONDS are a Girl’s Best Friend!

The Boston Globe called the show “Breathtaking…Picture-Perfect”.  DramaBiz Magazine said it was “Heartwarming…Heartbreaking”.  Mr. Blackwell called it a “Masterpiece!”  and said that he was “constantly mesmerized by Sunny.  I could hardly believe it was a show…It actually brought tears to my eyes…Sunny Thompson could win every known award for this masterpiece performance.”  Playing now through June 21st is
“Marilyn: Forever Blonde”.  This one-woman show depicting the highs and lows of the life of Marilyn Monroe is unlike anything that you have seen before and it not to be missed!

As our first show of the 2009 Summer Season, we could not be happier with our selection and know that you will be too!  The entire stage is white…the words are all Marilyn’s…the songs are ones that she sang in her movies…

Spring at the Playhouse

Hello Friends! The season of Spring Cleaning is upon us! At the Playhouse, we have been using this time to get organized from our last two productions (“Godspell” and “Wait until Dark”) and get ready for the opening of Marilyn Monroe: Forever Blonde next week. This show is going to be an amazing event and we hope that you can join us for it! In addition to this project, our Technical Director (Cat), Assistant Technical Director (Rachel) and House Manager (Noah) have created a display at the interactive museum at the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat. Check out the their website for more information (http://www.essexsteamtrain.com/).  And make sure to check back here for more news on our upcoming shows!Ivoryton Museum Display

Happy Spring!

As we approach the opening of our exciting second show of the 2009 Season, we are embarking on other projects as well!  We are in the process of applying for different grants from the state funded by the Federal Recovery Act as well as organizing fundraisers for the theatre to take place during the summer shows.  We are also finalizing our intern staff for the summer and holding auditions for upcoming shows!  The spring is a very busy time at the Playhouse, as most times are, and we are working very hard to continue to make this season a success.

I would like to draw your attention to the part of our website entitled “Media Room”.  If you have not yet looked there, please do!  That lists the press releases for current, and past, shows as well as the “In the News” section that includes a current article from Backstage.com about theatres in Connecticut (with a picture from our production of GODSPELL).  Also in this section you will find reviews from GODSPELL.  I encourage you to look around the new site and see all of the features that have been added.  This includes the new option of buying tickets on-line!  Check it out!

Welcome to the Ivoryton Playhouse Blog!

Welcome to the Ivoryton Playhouse website and blog! To those of you that are well acquainted with the Playhouse, I would like to welcome you to the NEW and IMPROVED website! As with our current season, we are very excited by our internet growth and are delighted that you chose to join us. We are just about to close our first incredible show of the season: “Godspell”. Kory Loucks of the Journal Inquirer said “Why take a train or drive into New York City when just an hour away at the historic Ivoryton Playhouse you can see a top-notch Broadway-quality production of “Godspell” for a fraction of the price of Broadway tickets? What a show. The youthful cast supplies enough energy to light up a town, and they invest every bit of enthusiasm and joy they have to their various parts.” Bonnie Goldberg wrote this in the Middletown Press: “Whether or not you’re in need of redemption, you’ll feel the spirit and the exuberance of this astonishing theatrical experience.” I know that you are probably thinking can they possibly follow that show with another equally good theatrical experience? The answer: Yes! This season, we have attempted murder, antagonistic roommates, chronicles of inspiration and growth and five men taking their clothes off! Something for everyone! The entertainment that we will produce for you at the Ivoryton Playhouse in 2009 is just starting. Once again, welcome!
